Educational Strategy For Special Needs Children

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Ministry of Education had adopted an inclusive educational strategy when it embarked on the implementation of special education in schools ten years ago.

Dr Awang Haji Abdul Latif bin Haji Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, said this at the opening ceremony of a National Workshop on Effective Inclusion Strategies for Educators of Individuals with Special Needs yesterday.

“Since then, many steps have been taken to enhance the inclusion of school children with special needs,” he said.

According to him, one of the earliest initiations involved the training and certification of Special Education Needs Assistance teachers to work in schools throughout the country.

He said that this workshop is intended to help teachers to remain abreast with recent development in inclusive education.

This programme provides a closer approach in drafting the Individual Education Plan for students with high support needs as well as Individual Remedial Plans for students with learning difficulties.

A total of 90 government teachers from both primary and secondary schools, including Pre-Vocational Programme teachers are attending the four-day workshop.

The Ministry of Education and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation of Morocco jointly organised the workshop.
