ABLE Picks Committee Members At Meeting

Bandar Seri Begawan - A meeting was held yesterday at the Civil Service Institute, which saw an election of committee members for new association Brunei Down's Syndrome Association (ABLE).

Coordinator Hjh Siti Mariam, during her welcoming speech, said it was important for the 40 people in attendance to understand the commitment required, in order to ensure success of the new association.

Hjh Siti Mariam Hj Jaafar was elected as the president of the new protem committee, and Dyg Zaiton Hj Bakar as her deputy.

Other new committee members include: Secretary I Hjh Jahlilawati Hj Abd Jalil; Secretary II Hjh Marinah Hj Abd Hadi; Deputy Secretary I Dyg Zuhairah Hayati Hj Abd Hadi; Deputy Secretary II Dyg Hjh Hamdiah Hj Tahir; Treasurer Dahari Hj Muntol; Deputy Treasurer I Hjh Rokiah Hj Jair; and Deputy Treasurer II Dyg Cairol Hj Tahir.

Among the plans for ABLE are organising educational conferences, public awareness forums and social events for Down's syndrome individuals. A family support group will also be set up that recognises special training needs and provides assistance to fulfill the needs.
