By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - HRH Princess Hajah Masna, Brunei's Acting Minister of
Foreign Affairs, attended the Asean+3 Foreign Ministers Meeting with
the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea at the
Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC).
The meeting reviewed overall progress
in the Asean+3 cooperation, a press release from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs stated.
Also discussed was its future
direction as well as an exchange of views on regional and
international issues.
HRH expressed her satisfaction with
the overall progress of the Asean+3 cooperation, including the
implementation of measures recommended by the East Asia Study Group (EASG),
stating that the closed cooperation of the Asean+3 has contributed
much to the continued growth of the economies in the region.
After attending the Asean+3 Foreign
Ministers Working Lunch, HRH then attended the signing ceremony of the
Asean-Australia Joint Declaration for Cooperation to combat
international terrorism, where the joint declaration reflected Asean
and Australia shared determination to work together to counter
international terrorism and reinforce the levels of cooperation
between the two sides in fighting this threat.
Following this was the launching of "Asean
and Australia Celebrating 30 Years" book in commemoration of the Asean-Australia
relationship.
HRH Princess Hajah Masna later
co-chaired the annual meeting of the Port Ministerial Conference (PMC)+1
session with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Canada,
William Graham.
The sultanate is the current country
coordinator for Asean-Canada dialogue relations.
During the PMC+1 session with Canada,
HRH delivered a statement in which HRH highlighted the important
progress in various aspects of cooperation between Asean and Canada.
Seeing great potentials for Asean-Canada
relations to grow from strength to strength as Asean and Canada had
over the years laid a solid foundation for a lasting and valuable
partnership, HRH expressed delight with the outcome of the Asean-Canada
Dialogue held in Bandar Seri Begawan last March in revitalising and
broadening the scope of Asean-Canada ties.
HRH also attended the PMC+I sessions
with Australia and EU, which also took place at JCC.
Later in the evening, HRH attended
the PMC+10 Retreat with other foreign ministers of Asean and Dialogue
Partner as well as the Asean Secretary-General, which ended with a PMC
Joint Press Conference and PMC+10 working dinner. All events took
place at JCC. --
