Indonesian Gets Jail And Cane For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 28-year-old Indonesian man who had overstayed his welcome for 274 days here was yesterday sentenced to three months' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court.

The court heard that the defendant, Ony Tri Cahyono, had remained in this country since October 2, 2003 to July 1 2004.

He was arrested by the Immigration Enforcement Officers in a house under construction at 28, Simpang 71, Kampong Bengkurong, during an operation codenamed `Ops Buru 39' conducted three days ago. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
