Malaysian Fined $12,500 For Booze And Meat Smuggling

Bandar Seri Begawan – A Malaysian man was fined $12,500 or 12 months imprisonment in default by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's court for smuggling alcoholic drinks and dubious chicken parts into the country.

Ngu Yung Yii, 35, was arrested by the government enforcement officers in the vicinity of Simpang 1307, Kampong Tunggulian, Sungai Liang on June 30. He paid the fine.

He was found to be in possession of 840 tins of alcoholic drinks and 504 kilogrammes of chicken parts.

All the goods were confiscated to be destroyed.

The officials also confiscated a mobile phone and the car used to carry out the illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the same court also sentenced Oni Tri Vahyono, 28, an Indonesian man for overstaying.

He was found guilty of overstaying in the country for 90 days after his immigration pass had expired.

He was sent to jail for three months and would be given three strokes of the cane. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
