Chinese Delegation From Belait
Visit Islamic Dakwah Centre

Begawan – A delegation from the Chinese Association in Belait
district today paid a goodwill visit to the Islamic Dakwah Centre,
Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In the afternoon, the visitors were
entertained to a luncheon.
Present at the function was Pehin
Dato Dr Ustaz Awang Haji Mohammad Zain, the Minister of Religious
Affairs.
At the function, the Minister
presented a souvenir to the head of the visiting delegation.
The souvenir comprised of several
religious books about Islam and relevant information on Islamic
teaching.
The head of delegation described the
visit as beneficial since they were able to learn more about Islam
during the visit.
Pehin
Awang Onn Siew Siong said the visit to the Islamic Dakwah Centre was
the first by the association.
He said the aim of the visit was to
learn more about the way of life of Muslims.
He further hoped that such activity
will be continued in the future and through it, the Chinese community
in the country will have the basic understanding of Islam.
It is hoped that the outcome of the
goodwill visit would further strengthen ties and understanding between
the Chinese and the Muslim communities in the country.
Earlier in the morning, the visiting
members of the Belait District's Chinese Association were briefed on
the true meaning of Islam and the Ministry's role and responsibility.
Islam, being a religion of peace,
does not discriminate other religions, race or nationality.
They were told that in Islam, peace
is universal and should be promoted throughout the world. Islam
believes that all mankind should live side by side in peace and
harmony.
Thus, it is important for all,
regardless of religion, race or belief to understand and respect each
other’s faith or way of life.
The Brunei constitution stated that
Islam is the country's official religion. However, it permits the
practise of other religions in peace and harmony.
The visitors also learned about the
role and responsibilities of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Being a government agency, the
ministry plays an important role in propagating Islam in the country.
In their respond, the Chinese
community pledged the undivided loyalty to His Majesty, who is always
concern with the well-being of the rakyat and residents regardless of
their race and religions.
They also pledged to cooperate fully
in nation-building.
Among those present at the briefing
was Awang Haji Yusof Haji Ismail, Acting Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Pehin
Awang Onn Siew Siong led the visitors.
The gathering took place at the
Islamic Dakwah Centre in Berakas.
