Chinese Delegation From Belait Visit Islamic Dakwah Centre

Bandar Seri Begawan – A delegation from the Chinese Association in Belait district today paid a goodwill visit to the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

In the afternoon, the visitors were entertained to a luncheon.

Present at the function was Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Awang Haji Mohammad Zain, the Minister of Religious Affairs.

At the function, the Minister presented a souvenir to the head of the visiting delegation.

The souvenir comprised of several religious books about Islam and relevant information on Islamic teaching.

The head of delegation described the visit as beneficial since they were able to learn more about Islam during the visit.

Pehin Awang Onn Siew Siong said the visit to the Islamic Dakwah Centre was the first by the association.

He said the aim of the visit was to learn more about the way of life of Muslims.

He further hoped that such activity will be continued in the future and through it, the Chinese community in the country will have the basic understanding of Islam.

It is hoped that the outcome of the goodwill visit would further strengthen ties and understanding between the Chinese and the Muslim communities in the country.

Earlier in the morning, the visiting members of the Belait District's Chinese Association were briefed on the true meaning of Islam and the Ministry's role and responsibility.

Islam, being a religion of peace, does not discriminate other religions, race or nationality.

They were told that in Islam, peace is universal and should be promoted throughout the world. Islam believes that all mankind should live side by side in peace and harmony.

Thus, it is important for all, regardless of religion, race or belief to understand and respect each other’s faith or way of life.

The Brunei constitution stated that Islam is the country's official religion. However, it permits the practise of other religions in peace and harmony.

The visitors also learned about the role and responsibilities of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Being a government agency, the ministry plays an important role in propagating Islam in the country.

In their respond, the Chinese community pledged the undivided loyalty to His Majesty, who is always concern with the well-being of the rakyat and residents regardless of their race and religions.

They also pledged to cooperate fully in nation-building.

Among those present at the briefing was Awang Haji Yusof Haji Ismail, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
