The pilot, Charles Nicholls, 53, a
British national had been due to pilot a plane from Heathrow
airport to Brunei on Thursday, when he was stopped by police and
asked to take a breath test.
He was taken off his plane by the
airport police and brought to Heathrow police station after
security staff became concerned and suspicious with the way the
pilot was ‘acting’.
The Brunei-bound flight took off
two hours late with a substitute pilot, wire services reported.
Scotland Yard in the BBC News
said that the pilot was released on police bail.
No formal charge was served, but
he was asked to return in mid-August pending further inquiries.
According to wire reports, the
British Government recently brought in new regulations for airline
staff and crew, which would subject them to police breath tests.
RBA in a statement to the
Bulletin last night confirmed the incident that took place at
Heathrow Airport Terminal 3. |
