Kuala Belait -
Personnel from the Enforcement Section of the Immigration
Department in Kuala Belait conducted checks on foreign workers
residing in the country during a surprise raid Wednesday night.
The Wednesday raid covered four areas
in Seria and Kuala Belait.
A Filipino woman, who was reported to
have fled from her employer last June, was finally nabbed during the
raid.
The 31-year-old woman was found
residing in an empty room, which had been used to accommodate foreign
workers especially those who had entered the country without valid
permit or the overstayers.
The arrest was made after a thorough
search was carried out in the vicinity of Jalan Pandan Satu, one of
the places targetted.
The runaway Filipina was immediately
detained for further investigation.
During the raid, the Immigration
officers also issued special passes to two Filipinos and an
Indonesian, which require them to report to the Immigration Department
for further clarification on their documents.
The operation codenamed "Ops Burn 39”
involved inspecting four target areas in Jalan Pangsa Seria, Jalan
Singa Menteri Kuala Belait and two areas in Jalan Pandan Satu.
The operation, which started at 10 pm
and ended late at night, involved 11 Immigration officers.
Awg
Sulaiman, Chief Immigration Officer, led the surprise raid.
A total of 30 foreign workers
comprising Filipinos, Indonesian and Malaysian nationals were searched
during the operation, which was conducted with the purpose of
eliminating activities which breach rules and regulations of the
Immigration Act. --
