ASEAN Foreign Ministers Ink Declaration On Violence Against Women

Bandar Seri Begawan - Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna, Brunei’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday attended the opening ceremony of the 37th Asean Ministerial Meeting (AMM).

Her Exellency Megawati Soekarnoputri, President of the Republic of Indonesia, officiated the ceremony held at the Istana Negara.

Prior to the opening ceremony, HRH joined other foreign ministers and the secretary-general of Asean in a courtesy call on the Indonesian president.

HRH then attended the AMM Retreat and the Asean Foreign Ministers' working lunch at the Gedung Pancasila, Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

In the afternoon, HRH and other foreign ministers attended the close session of the AMM, followed by the closing ceremony of the 37th AMM at the Jakarta Convention Centre.

At the ceremony, Hassan Wirajuda, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered a closing remark.

Sornsavad Longsavad, Deputy Trade Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao People's Democratic Republic, in his capacity as the incoming Chairman of the 38th AMM, also delivered a statement.

A Joint Communique was issued at the end of the meeting. Later in the afternoon, HRH and other foreign ministers signed the Declaration on the Elimination of “Violence Against Women in Asean”.

In the evening, HRH and YAM Pg. Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg. Anak Hj Abdul Aziz joined the other foreign ministers and the secretary-general of Asean at the dinner.

The governor of Jakarta hosted it in honour of the Foreign Ministers of Asean and delegates to the 37th AMM. It was held at a leading hotel in Jakarta. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
