Royal Gift For Longhouse Chiefs In
Brunei
Temburong
– Longhouse chiefs have a thousand and one reasons to be
grateful to His Majesty Sultan Haji hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin
Waddaulah. Starting April this year, they have been receiving more
from His Majesty’s government.
By consent of His Majesty the Sultan
of Brunei, the post of longhouse heads in the country has been
upgraded which entitles them to receive a basic monthly pay rather
than a mere allowance.
Pehin
Dato Awang Haji Adanan, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, said this at
a gathering with penghulus, ketua kampong and heads of longhouses in
the Temburong District yesterday.
He said under the upgrading of the
post, which took effect April 1, 2004, the heads of longhouses are
entitled to receive a monthly pay at the scale of E3 E134.
Their salary is in lieu of the $400
allowance the longhouse chiefs are receiving for a long time.
The heads of longhouses are also
eligible to be promoted as ketua kampong depending on the criteria
underlined by the Ministry of Home Affairs. They will receive a basic
monthly pay at the scale of D3 EB4.
They are also entitled to other
facilities depending on their qualifications.
The deputy minister also highlighted
the need for penghulus, ketua kampong and heads of longhouses as
leaders at the grassroots level, to always apply the quality
leadership and maintain a good rapport with the residents in their
respective areas.
Pehin
Adanan believed that the aspiration of the Ministry of Home Affairs
and residents of mukim, villages and longhouses will be fulfilled and
the image and services of the penghulu, ketua kampong and heads of
longhouses will be upgraded.
This, he said, should be apart from
their responsibilities of safeguarding the security and prosperity in
their mukims and villages and cooperating with relevant government
agencies. -- Courtesy of
