Brunei sixth after Round 2
By Dannie Abu Basrah

Brunei finished their round two games
in the sixth spot after an inconsistent and roller coaster performance
in Group A of the 2004 Malaysian League season.
They also hold the record for the
best offence in the league scoring a total of 39 goals with the recent
9-1 thrashing of Kelantan JPS being the main contributor to the
changes.
Despite scoring plenty of goals, the
Wasps also let in a lot with the defence conceding 27 goals. All of
their second round matches were played on home soil at the Jabatan
Belia and Sukan field as a temporary replacement for the Hassanal
Bolkiah Stadium which is undergoing renovation.
Collecting a total of 10 points out
of the 8 second round matches played, it was an under-par performance
from the team which is second best and also disappointing when
compared to the 12 points collected during the first round which were
all away games.
The Wasps should have done better
given the fact that they are playing all the second round matches at
home.
Where did the Wasps go wrong? Lying
in the sixth spot and 12 points behind leaders Johor FC, it seems that
there is still a lot of hard work that needs to be done if the team
really wants to push for a place to compete with the big boys in the
Super League next season.
Certainly there is still time to fix
things right when round 3 kicks off with another eight games where
their first task comes on July 7 when they travel to the Shah Alam
Stadium to play against Selangor, a side that they failed to beat in
both the first and second round.
Hopefully this time around the Wasps
are well equipped to face the Red Giants with our forwards hitting
top-form. Leading the Brunei top scorer list are Abg Norsillmy Abg
Haji Taha with seven goals, followed by Viban Francis Bayong and Silas
Liberato Da Silva each scoring six goals.
