A thanksgiving ceremony for two
Universiti Brunei Darussalam's undergraduates who will participate in
a six-week International Co-Ed Summer School at the EHWA Women's
University of Seoul, Korea was held yesterday afternoon in UBD's
Cafeteria Hall.
Present as guest of honour to
represent the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea was Mr Rhee Bong Kyu,
Deputy Chief of Mission. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Pg Dr Hjh
Rahmah Pg Hj Mohd Jadid, in her speech, expressed gratitude and
appreciation to Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr Kim Woong-Nam,
for his hard work to facilitate such a move.
She also extended her sincere
gratitude to EHWA University for providing a scholarship in the form
of local hospitality for the students. Pg Dr Hjh Rahmah added, "It is
appropriate for us to reciprocate the kindness of EHWA University by
offering scholarship to their students to attend courses for a
semester at UBD."
The move was a small step towards a
giant objective in fostering relationship between both nations in the
hope that the students, who are the future leaders, will work together
for world peace, she said. She also hoped that such efforts will be
continued not only to facilitate movement of students between the two
countries, but also the movement of educators, administrators and
scientists among others.
Meanwhile, in her opening remarks,
the Acting Dean of Students, Dr Hjh Sainah Hj Saim, said this was the
first time UBD had received an invitation for students to attend
Summer School in the Republic of Korea. She hoped that the students
will share their knowledge and experiences with colleagues in Korea
and Brunei when they return.
Also in attendance at the
thanksgiving ceremony were principal officers, officials from the
Embassy of the Republic of Korea, deputy deans, heads of department,
lecturers, officers and parents as well as the students.
