Bandar Seri
Begawan - The annual Panaga Amateur Open Golf Championship is
back with more excitement this weekend from July 2-4 with the theme
"Go for it".
Coming into its 39th season, the
Panaga Amateur Open, a tournament sanctioned by Brunei Darussalam Golf
Association, is steadily growing in stature over the years.
As one of the pioneer top amateur
open golf championships in Brunei that was first held in 1966, this
event has always been well supported by golfers from all ages.
This year, a combined total of 190
players, men (handicap 18 and below) and ladies (handicap 28 and
below) representing golf clubs from Brunei and Malaysia have
registered for the meet.
Among the top players taking part are
Seruji Hj Setia, Pg Adam Bin Pg Atan, Suhaimi bin Ibrahim of Pantai
Menteri Golf Club; Maurice Wong, Robert William and Young Yin Chong of
Panaga Golf Club (PGC) and Michell Ping (ladies category), Lee Kah
Chieng and Kelana bin Ibrahim of Kelab Golf Miri.
Priscilla Wong of PGC will be
defending her title in the ladies category.
There will be an array of fantastic
prizes to be won on each day, including the much-awaited lucky draws
in the final round, and not forgetting the hole-in-one prizes.
The meet will be played over three
days but only the best 36 men and 12 ladies will be playing on the
final day.
Hj
Mohd Musa bin Hj Suhaili, Tournament Director, was delighted with the
huge support from the sponsors.
It has certainly raised the profile
of the event and made it an even more attractive tournament for the
players. He would like to thank all the sponsors for their support.
