Al-Quran Semi-finalists Announced

Bandar Seri Begawan - Semi-Finalist of the Al-Quran reading competition gathered yesterday of the Ministry of Religious Affairs to find out their turn at today's competition at the Municipal Hall, Kuala Belait.

Awang Hj Md Zaimi bin Hj Talio is the chairman of the judges committee and Awang Haji Abdul Rajid bin Hj Md Salleh is the deputy chairman.

The gathering is also aimed to provide the participants - 17 males and nine females - with an opportunity to learn more about the competition.

The Al-Quran reading competition is a joint undertaking of the Belait district, Ministry of Home Affairs, Religious Office of Belait and Communication & Syiar Islam Development Unit, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The guest of honour will be Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adrian bin Pehin Dato Awang Haji Mohd Yusof¸ the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

According to the organisers, there will be three males and four females in the final of the competition, which is scheduled to be held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas this August. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
