$13,000 Fine For Local Drug Addict

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local man who faced seven drug-related charges was fined $13,000 or 16 months' imprisonment in default while his Filipino wife was fined $4,000 or in default 6 months' jail for pleading guilty to two counts of consuming Syabu.

Sofri bin Mat Salleh, unemployed, was convicted on two counts of having in his possession Methylamphetamine, one count of having cannabis, two counts of having several apparatus for consuming the controlled drugs and two counts of consuming class “A” controlled drug, Methylamphetamine.

Meanwhile, his wife, Maria Solome S. Travez, admitted to two charges of consuming Methylamphetamine for which she was fined $2,000 on each charge.

Both defendants were arrested on two different occasions, at different places on January 26 and September 27, 2001.
