Brunei Aims To Become “Most Wired”

Begawan – Brunei could become soon the “most wired” country in
the region.

Dato Haji Zakaria, Communications Minister was speaking yesterday at
the launching of the Brunei Information Communication Technology Award
(BICTA) 2004.
Developing info-communication
infrastructure industry is aimed to offer opportunities to small and
medium entrepreneurs to further develop their info-communication
oriented businesses, he said adding that such business opportunities
could help to develop info-communication industry in the country.
In the process towards ICT
development, a lot of things have to be done especially in upgrading
access and the use of ICT to build confidence and trust to interact by
using services provided by the government and commercial sector
through electronic media.
The minister also mentioned of the
country's vision in making Brunei as the 'most-wired' country in this
region.
In years to come, Brunei is expected
to use more services and applications in e-government and e-business.
The government is actively planning
to build cyber cafes to promote and develop info-communication
industry in the country.
Twelve categories were competed for
the award.
Among them is an award for students'
project offering challenges and competitiveness as the basic to future
