Twenty Government Servants
Bankrupt Yearly Says Top Official
Bandar Seri
Begawan – On average, for the last three years about twenty
public servants were declared bankrupt each year.
In accordance with the code of
conduct stipulated in the General Order, disciplinary action would be
taken against these officers on top of their liability to banks.
Pengiran Dato
Haji Abdul Hamid, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's
Office, said this when he officially declared open the new
Baiduri Bank Branch at The Mall in Gadong yesterday.
The new branch is open for business
seven days a week from 9am to 10pm.
It is based on an innovative banking
concept that caters to the busy lifestyle of modern Bruneians
Meanwhile, a Brudirect.com survey revealed that high living, careless spending resulting in over
commitment to banks, were some of the main causes why public servants
went bankrupt.
Some built too many houses during
boom time and at the end found it too difficult to maintain as rents
went down.
Others indulged in businesses and
lost money forcing them into bankruptcy.
