Tutong Expo Marks Royal Birthday
Joy

Tutong - Various
activities are being organised in all the four districts in
conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei's 57th Birthday
Celebration. In the Tutong district the celebration's executive
committee yesterday morning launched an Economic Expo.
The Expo was launched by the Tutong
District Officer, Awang Hepnie. The Economic Expo is a new approach
for this year's celebration. This year exhibition of local products
from various sectors comprising Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)'s
in the district have widened its scope. Such effort is as a step
towards developing, upgrading and encouraging local entrepreneurs and
the public to exhibit their products.
Expo is an excellent chance to
exhibit items like the traditional woven backpack, known among the
Malays as "Tekiding" while among the Iban community it is
known as "Kibah". Kibah, made from rattan, is commonly used
to carry things such as fruits, vegetables and nets. One Kibah will
take a week to complete. Its prices ranges from $33 to $35 each.
The exhibition also displays various
Iban handicrafts as well as musical instruments like "Sapek"
which looks more like a guitar. Sapek is usually played during the
Ibans community celebrations and ceremonies.
Apart from displaying local products,
the organiser has also held a fresh flower competition. The Expo which
is being held at the open area of the Tutong district civic will be on
for a week. It is Opened from 10.00 am until 8.00 pm. -- Courtesy
