A contract which includes the supply, delivery, training and commissioning of complete aircraft recovery equipment is timely and is scheduled to be delivered to Brunei International Airport prior to the APEC 2000 Summit in November.
This was stated by the Director of Civil Aviation, Haji Kasim bin Haji Latip at the official signing of contracts between
the Department of Civil Aviation Brunei Darussalam and AMS Systems Engineering of the United Kingdom yesterday
.
The contract is for the purchase of a complete set of Aircraft Recovery Equipment. It was held at the Air Traffic Control
Centre, Department of Civil Aviation at the Brunei International Airport.
The Department of Civil Aviation was represented by the Director, Haji Kasim bin Haji Latip and AMS Systems Engineering (UK) was represented by its Managing Director, Mr. Allan J.P. Knight.
The state-of-the-art system is capable for successful lifting as well as safe expeditious removal of any disabled civil or military aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747 and 777 from the runway.
The Director of Civil Aviation further explained the possibility of a situation if an aircraft should veer off the runway during take-off or landing with the landing gear collapsing or an engine being torn off at the Brunei International
Airport.
"The Department of Civil Aviation and the Royal Brunei Airlines would at their best be prepared to handle such emergencies, thus boosting the confidence of the flying public," said Haji Kasim. The purchase of this system is also
part of the APEC Emergency Contingency Plan prepared for the Brunei International Airport by the Department of
Civil Aviation," he added.
