Bandar Seri Begawan - A 22-year-old local man was yesterday sentenced to 15 years jail and 12 strokes of the cane for raping his sister.

The court heard that the defendant had raped his sister, who was 13 years old at the time of the offence, on two occasions at home during the wee hours of the morning.

The offence was committed sometime between August and September 2007 and again between July and August 2008, at 4 am on both occasions.

Noticing a change in her daughter's body in early December, the girl's mother brought the victim to the hospital, only to be told that her daughter was six weeks pregnant and that she had been raped by the defendant.

A report was soon lodged at the Women and

Children Abuse Investigation Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force.

Another medical examination was conducted and the results confirmed that the victim was 20 weeks pregnant. The baby is due sometime this year.
