Two Survivors Of Gas Explosion
Critical In RIPAS

Begawan - The 16 survivors of a gas explosion that ripped
through a seafood-processing factory in Serasa two days ago that
killed three people, have been receiving medical care at the Raja
Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital ever since the
tragedy struck.

Two of the
survivors are currently being treated in the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) after having suffered more than 80 per cent burn
wounds to their bodies.
Others in less critical
condition have been admitted to the surgical intensive care
unit whilst those with minor wounds have been recovering in
various other wards.
Zaw
MM Tin, a Myanmar national, suffered a perforated left
eardrum as a result of the massive explosion.
Rais
Zulkarnain, from Indonesia, was treated for puncture wounds
as a result of pieces of shrapnel |

that hit his back during
the blast.
Both have since been
discharged after receiving medical attention.
According to the nurse
on duty, the wards are equipped with a disaster plan,
which they adhere to during times of emergencies where
they can call upon standby staff to assist with the
handling of the patients. |
He added that the gas explosion was
the worst incident in 2008.
The cause of the explosion is still
under investigation. --
