First Dojo Opens In Sultanate
By Zasika Musdi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The first-ever martial arts 'dojo' (training hall)
officially opened its doors to the public yesterday.
The dojo offers its members
first-class training facilities and qualified instructors. It is
well equipped to cater for full training for members in their
beginners level right up to the advance level, in martial arts such
as karate, taekwando, kickboxing, and the 3-in-1 silat, kuntao and
arnis.
It also boasts international style
boxing training and exercise.
The place awards certificates to
its members following the completion of training, and it also
provides traditional Chinese body conditioning and breathing
techniques lessons.
The dojo welcomes parties who are
interested in following the exercise routines only as a means of
keeping their body fit and healthy.
The uniqueness of this training
hall lies in the plethora of martial arts offered, as most other
training centres in Brunei offers only one form of martial arts
training.
Dojo Advisor Hj Kamaruddin bin Dato
Paduka Hj Talib said this concept is the first of its kind in Brunei
and Malaysia.
"This is one of our efforts in
supporting the aim of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports
in-developing a healthy mindset among youths, and to show that
martial arts isn't an aggressive sport, but one that teaches
discipline and encourages fitness," he said.
"All our instructors are qualified
- some have participated and won medals during the SEA games and
other competitions - and we are all ready to share our experiences
with other Bruneians."
The dojo is located at the same
building as Ericsson in Kg Jaya Setia (Jln Lapangan Terbang
Antarabangsa Berakas). -- Courtesy of Borneo
