Brunei Junior Chess Players Shine

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei junior chess players bagged all the age group categories at the Sarawak Chess Open Championship held at the Premier Hotel in Sibu recently.

Ahmad Bukhari bin Hj Emran was the top player for Under-18 while Md Aliuddin bin Hj Azahari was second in the same category.

Md Abqari bin Hj Emran won top place for Under-15 and Munirruddin Ahmad was second.

In the Under-12 category, Munir Azizi was first and Siti Nur Fatanah came in second. The youngest player representing Brunei, Nabil Sabli, who is only seven-years old, was third.

Brunei were led by team manager Sabli Hj Metussin, the Brunei Chess Federation treasurer in the four-day meet participated by 73 players from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Brunei.

The overall winner of the meet was Mok Tze Meng, one of the top Malaysia national players. However, Yee Soon Wei from Brunei defeated him in the fifth round but emerged second with the same points as Mok.
