Three-Way Accident At Berakas
Highway
By Mohammad Abdullah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A road accident involving three saloon cars took
place along the Berakas Highway, leaving one man injured and causing
considerable traffic congestion, yesterday afternoon.
Witnesses said that one of the cars
had been parked by the side of the road-with its emergency lights on
- when a second car that was travelling in the left lane swerved
into it. The next few seconds were mayhem. The initial impact caused
the second car to run into oncoming traffic, colliding with a third
car that was travelling on the right lane.
"I parked my car on the lay-by and
switched on the emergency lights," said the driver of the parked
car. "I was still in the car at the time, but I had my safety belt
on. When I saw the (second car) heading towards my car from the side
mirror, I knew that the car was going to slam into my car. And sure
enough, the car hit me from behind."
"The man apologised to me and said
that his head had been spinning when he slammed onto me," he
continued.
The man driving the second car
suffered severe lacerations across his head as a result of the
accident. Witnesses said that the man was not wearing a safety belt
when he slammed into the parked car, adding that he had apparently
hit his head against the steering wheel. No other injuries were
reported in the incident.
The ambulance arrived at the scene
within minutes of the accident and took the injured man to hospital.
The police were also at the scene to control the traffic on the
highway. -- Courtesy of Borneo
