Red Tide In Waters Around Lumut
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Red Tide phenomenon has returned to the Brunei waters again.

The Fisheries Department announced in a statement yesterday that results from the analysis and monitoring have shown that there is an occurrence of Red Tide in the waters around Lumut area.

In view of this, the public has been advised and reminded not to catch and consume fish from the affected areas until the analysis results can be confirmed and released. As an additional precautionary measure, the public has been reminded to completely remove the guts, gills and other internal organs of fish before cooking.

The public has also been told not to consume small fish and molluscan shellfish of unknown origin. The Fisheries Department added that it will keep the public informed of the current situation from time to time.

The public, especially the fishermen, can assist the department in reporting any water discolouration and report of any mass fish mortality in Brunei waters or beaches by calling 8717153, 8715005, 8675409 or 8787337. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
