By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan – Sarawak Police has recently smashed the biggest illegal 4D gambling syndicate in the state, which they believed to have spread its network to as far as Brunei Darussalam.

The syndicate, said to be able to collect as many as RM500,000 from punters per draw, was smashed after a raid at Taman Permaisuri Indah in Miri recently, Berita Harian reported.

Initial investigation by the police found out that the syndicate has been running illegal 4D gambling and collecting from punters as much as RM500,000 ($250,000) per draw.

The police also said the success of the syndicate was due to the support from punters from a number of countries, including Brunei Darussalam.

However, the police did not offer explanation on the alleged involvement of punters from Brunei. It is believed the police came to this conclusion after seizing currencies of various nations, including from the sultanate.

Previous currency seizures on raids conducted on illegal 4D gambling syndicates in neighbouring places in the past also included Brunei currency. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
