Fulbright Scholar To Depart For US
University Next Week

Begawan – Brunei Darussalam's Fulbright scholar, Mohamed Yusra
bin Hj Mohamed Salleh, will be leaving for Tempe, Arizona in the US
next week. The prestigious Fulbright Programme is not just a
scholarship but also a leadership programme in which the scholars are
expected to increase mutual understanding and respect internationally
as well as contribute positively to their communities upon returning
home.
Brunei's second Fulbright scholar
since the Sultanate's _.independence, Mohamed Yusra, will be pursuing
a twoyear Masters of Religious Studies programme at Arizona State
University.
Mohamed Yusra previously completed
his Bachelor in Islamic Jurisprudence from AI-Azhar University in
Cairo, and currently works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His
service has included being in the Middle East and he is fluent in
Arabic.
Arizona State University (ASU) was
founded in 1885 and boasts a vibrant, multicultural campus environment
with a large student population (30,000 students at the undergraduate
level and about 8,000 degree seeking graduates).
There are over 3000 international
students studying at ASU, representing more than 140 nations and
nationalities. ASU is located about 10 minutes from Phoenix.
US Embassy Charge d'Affaires, Jeff
Hawkins, commented, "Mohd. Yusra was chosen from a very competitive
pool of applicants and we are thrilled that he has been accepted by
the Fulbright programme and Arizona State University. His tenure there
will expose American scholars to Bruneians' points of view and give
him understanding of American perspectives on comparative religion."
