Roads At Beribi Industrial Area Upgraded
By Rosh Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Various roads at the Beribi Industrial Area Phase 2 are currently being upgraded.

According to the Public Works Department (JKR), the renovation and upgrading of existing roads are both done to ensure a balanced development.

The department hoped for public tolerance as the upgrading of roads may cause some traffic disruption and congestion especially during peak hours.

The department will try to minimise traffic disruption and congestion by conducting the upgrading work from evening to early morning where possible.

In the Stn National Development Plan (NDP), the total length of roads to be upgraded is 44.25 km.

The upgrading programmes for main intersections and congested roads will be implemented continuously.

Among the major road widening programmes is the widening of the route from Jalan Tutong to Seria to four lanes, which is currently under construction.

The upgrading of minor roads in densely populated areas also includes providing basic facilities such as pedestrian walkways and the replacement of timber bridges to steel.

The construction of asphalt roads enables new areas to be opened up for settlements and agricultural activities as well as linking villages and providing corridors for the required infrastructure and services.

At the same time, a study will be carried out on the suitability of applying new road construction technology locally to enhance the strength of roads and durability of asphalt surfacing.

An efficient land transport system does not only require an integrated and co-ordinated road development programme but also an effective public transportation system such as bus and taxi services.

In the 81 NDP, which will end this year, a training and driving circuit complex in the Brunei-Muara District will be built to enhance drivers' skills on the road.

The implementation of land transport projects related to road safety will also be done. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
