Business Body Sets Up Registration
Office For Flood Victims
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI)
is creating an area at the office where affected victims can register
their names and receive help.
The new service demonstrates care for
flood victims in the Sultanate.
According to Hj Muhammad bin Pehin
OKILBMDSU Hj Ismail, the executive secretary of administration and an
executive committee member of BMCCI, the welfare section of the
chambers initiated the move to offer help to locals affected by
floods.
"We will only accept those who are
really in need, to come here and register. The victims are also
required to provide pictures of their flooded homes to authenticate
their claims.
"After the registration, we will keep
in touch with the victims," he said.
A great number of people were
affected by last week's flash flood, which left some houses inundated
with four feet of water.
Hardest hit were residents in the
area of Kg Subuk, Kg Kianggeh and Ong Sum Ping.
Hj
Muhammad said they had learnt that many victims were left with damaged
furniture and electrical equipment after the flash floods.
Many victims also discovered their
vehicles partially submerged and damaged by the floods.
"We heard many people were affected.
Some even cried when they saw their belongings submerged in water.
Thus, we decided to do something for these needy people," added Hj
Muhammad. --
