Ship Sails To Aceh With Donations
By Helena M. Mahathir
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Kota Mulia MV (Motor Vessel) left Muara Port
yesterday morning to deliver a total of 14 containers filled with
boxes of items donated by members of the Brunei public, through the
initiative of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, for the
survivors of the tsunami tragedy in Aceh.
The shipping arrangement had been
made possible through the help of Mr Fang Teck Siong of Seatrade
Shipping Sdn Bhd, a local shipping agency, who had generously offered
to bear the inland costs of nine containers.
This is carried out in cooperation
with Pehin Kapitan Goh King Chin of Goh Hock Kee Motors who is also
open-handedly sponsoring the cost of ocean freight charges for the
nine containers.
Meanwhile, the ocean freight charges
of the other five containers will be funded by the Malaysian Citizens
Association (Persatuan Warga Negara Malaysia).
Brunei Freight Forwarding Association
sponsored the inland costs.
In addition, PSA MCT (Muara Container
Terminal) has agreed to waive the terminal charges in Brunei.
The total cost of charges for each
container, which can carry a maximum weight of 24 tonnes, is about
B$2,300.
This includes inland costs of port
charges, terminal and trailer charges, transportation in and out of
the port, as well as all ocean freight costs.
Kota Mulia MV will transit in
Singapore en route to Medan, before the goods are delivered to Aceh.
The shipment is scheduled to arrive
at the Port of Belawan in Medan on January 25, where the Indonesian
Scouts Association `Gerakan Pramuka' will then assist in transporting
the donated items to Aceh.
Without the cooperation between the
Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association and 'Gerakan Pramuka', it would
have been almost impossible to transport the goods on to Aceh due to
difficulties that would be encountered whilst clearing the goods upon
arrival at the Port of Belawan in Medan. --
