Belait Projects For Tsunami Fund
By Hjh Saemah Zulkefli
Kuala Belait -
Two projects are underway until the end of this month to
collect money for the Tsunami Aid Fund in Kuala Belait.
A charity walkathon will be held at 7
am on January 30 at the Padang Bandaran. It is open to all district
residents.
Entry forms can be obtained from
Awang Morni bin Haji Zakaria, the head of Belait secretariat office.
He can be reached at 8721441.
The District Officer, Dato Paduka
Haji Mohd Yusof bin Bakar, said a meeting was held yesterday by the
members of the Tsunami Aid Fund committee to discuss projects to help
tsunami victims.
All the money obtained from the
charity walkathon will be donated to the fund. In a meeting last Jan.
6, executive committee members were appointed and donations amounting
to $638 were raised.
Donation letters were sent to Belait
district government officers, residents, private companies, youth and
non-government organisations and the Belait community.
Their second project, a Charity
Bazaar, will be running for approximately three-weeks. Through this
project, the total booth rental fees will be completely donated to the
Tsunami Aid Fund.
During this Charity Bazaar, a Jumbo
Sale of secondhand clothes, of which the committee sets prices, will
be held together with the sale of stickers. All proceeds will go to
the fund.
Dato
Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof bin Bakar said he hopes the public, especially
those residing in the district, would be participating in projects,
purchase goods and give donations to aid those who have been
victimised by the horrendous natural disaster. --
