By CT Hj Mahmod
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A total of $750,000 has been poured into the National
Tsunami Relief Fund by BSP, BLNG BST, BSM and their employees.
Some $190,000 of the amount will be
donated to the UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) following
discussions with the National Tsunami Relief Fund companies.
This sum of money will assist the
agency in providing urgently needed humanitarian aid and long term
development support for the thousands of children affected by the
disaster.
In a press statement issued
yesterday, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP) on behalf of the four
companies said that close to $95,000 was raised through voluntary
contributions from employees, which were matched by BSP to make the
total $190,000.
This adds to the previous donation of
$35,000 from Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG) initially allocated as a reward
to BLNG staff for achieving safety performance of five million
man-hours without injury, which the staff had voluntarily agreed to
donate to the National Tsunami Relief Fund through the Brunei Scouts
Association.
A further $500,000 donation from BSP,
BLNG Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd (BSM), Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn
Bhd (BST) will be made to the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees) to support relief efforts aimed at resettling the
countless number of people who have been displaced and made homeless
by the tsunami disaster.
The four companies thanked all
employees for responding spontaneously and generously towards efforts
to assist the tsunami victims, added the press statement. --
