Brunei To Rush Its Army, Doctors, Nurses And Others To Aceh

Begawan – Brunei is to send volunteers to Aceh. It will include
its army, medical staff and others.

A
government statement said that by consent of His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, the Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah Foundation will launch initiative sending humanitarian aid
to Aceh that had been badly hit by the tsunami.
The
initiative will involve the despatch of volunteers to the affected
areas.
Pehin
Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin, Chairman of the Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, disclosed this at a media briefing
yesterday.
The
volunteers will comprise professional medical staff from the
Ministry of Health which include doctors, nurses and medical and
health personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, as well as
other volunteers whose help will be needed in the distribution of
food, drinks and clothing.
The
foundation also contributed an initial relief fund of $100,000 and
the public is urged to jointly contribute in this initiative.
His
Majesty also consented for the foundation to provide a follow-up
relief in the reconstructions work, such as rebuilding mosques,
dormitories for orphans and schools. |

The initiative has the full support
from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces who will provide logistic support,
communications and personnel.
The initial implementation of the
Foundation's relief aid will be to collect information and build up
communication link with the appropriated authorities in Aceh.
The first batch of the humanitarian
group will be expected to leave the country next week.
Meanwhile members of the public
wishing to contribute to make this initiative a success can contact
the foundation through telephone lines 223-2749 or 223-2731/7 from 8am
until 10pm.
They may also go directly to the
Volunteer Unit, on the 4th floor of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Foundation Complex, in Bandar Seri Begawan.
