By Cedrina Norlaila Abd

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Philatelic Society of Kuching, Sarawak (PSKS), with permission from Kuching City South Council, recently held a Philatelic Gallery Stamp Show at the MBKS building, Kuching.

The event saw a comprehensive collection of Brunei first day covers on display.

Mayor of Kuching City South Council Chan Seng Khai initiated the idea of setting up the Philatelic Gallery, which was fully supported by PSKS, as part of the efforts in urban and tourism development.

The stamp show also marked the official opening of the new Philatelic Gallery.

The event was aimed at introducing stamps of Sarawak to the public and other philatelic bodies both locally and abroad. Other objectives included boosting ties among members and promoting interest in stamp collection.

The newly opened Philatelic Gallery will serve as a focal point of recreational, educational and cultural linkages from the philatelic perspective.

The main attractions at the exhibition were: Sarawak revenue stamps and documents from 1869 to 1949; overprinted Sarawak stamps; the stamps issued for the independence of Malaya and Malaysia; the complete set of full pane of the Sarawak 1934 Bradbury Wikinson definitive issue; the Federated Malaysian stamps; Brunei first day covers; official government mail; post cards on cats; and China and Macau issues. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
