Sultan Leaves Jakarta After Asean Talks

Jakarta - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam left Jakarta yesterday after attending the Special Asean Leaders Meeting on the Aftermath of Earthquake and tsunami, RTB reported last night.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Special Meeting addressed vital issues in aftermath of the December 26th disaster, such as emergency relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction, prevention and mitigation.

To this end leaders agreed to mobilise urgently additional resources to meet emergency relief and encourage private sector participation and contributions to the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

They also agreed to establish a regional early warning system such as Regional Tsunami Early Warning Centre for the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia Region.

Before leaving for the airport a doa selamat was read by the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Abdul Aziz.

Present at the Halim Perdana Kusuma International Airport to bid farewell to His Majesty were Indonesia's Minister of Communications and Information Dr Sofyan Djalil and other senior officials of the Indonesian government.

Also present were Brunei Darussalam's Ambassador to Indonesia, Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Amin and officers from the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Jakarta. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
