Well Done Minister Tells Brunei’s Private Sector On Tsunami Relief

Bandar Seri Begawan – Several agencies in the country including the private sector have shown their concern for the sufferings of the tsunami victims.

Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports expressed its satisfaction on the initiatives taken by the group to collect donations for the victims of the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund.

Pehin Dato Doctor Haji Awang Hussain, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports acknowledged such efforts while launching the charity sales for the fund yesterday morning. The sales are being held at the shopping complex areas in Gadong.

He also welcomed and expressed his appreciation for the charity sales as efforts taken by the organisers that received great response.

He added that the initiatives were very encouraging showing how concerned the private sector was towards the suffering of the tsunami victims.

At the function, the inister who is also the advisor of the country's Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund received donations totalling more than B$128,000.00 from more than 50 members of the private sector, associations and people.

Twelve firms are taking part in the charity sales which is open until 10 pm.

All the proceeds from the sales will be donated to the tsunami disaster relief fund in the country.

The charity sales are organised by the Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Philippine, Sri Lankan citizens Associations. Besides the sales, the associations will also organise a charity golf and aerobic session.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association is currently receiving many contributions for the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund. The contributions in the form of money, clothing and dry food continue to pour in since the fund was launched this month.

Yesterday morning, members of the association were busy preparing, packaging, sorting and loading all the goods received before they were delivered to Acheh. The first shipment will leave on the January 13 and is expected to arrive there either on January 23 or 25.

While in Acheh, all the aid from the Brunei Scouts Association will be managed by the Pramuka Movement Scouts Indonesia. So far, the Brunei Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund has collected B$822,556.90. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
