Baiduri To Hold Breast Cancer Awareness Talk

Bandar Seri Begawan - Baiduri Bank is set to hold a breast cancer awareness talk for its female Prestige customers, Ladies Card members and female staff members tomorrow at Mutiara 1, Lobby Level, Sheraton Utama Hotel, between 4.45 and 6.15 pm.

The event will be held in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Support Group, a local non-profit organisation actively involved in breast cancer education, research, screenings and support programmes.

According to the International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organisation, one million women worldwide develop breast cancer each year, with the highest risk group being those aged 50 and above.

In Brunei, a total of 151 cases were reported between 2000 and 2003, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the topics which will be covered during the talk are: breast cancer in Brunei; breast self-examination practice; and coping with breast cancer, where a survivor will share with the participants her experience and struggle.

A question-and-answer session will be held after the talk.

It is the first time the Breast Cancer Support Group jointly organise an event with a commercial organisation.

It is hoped that by raising awareness and encouraging women to develop a habit of self-screening, breast cancer can be detected earlier, thus increasing the chances of living through it. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
