By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - Residents of Lambak Kanan Housing Scheme in Jalan Berakas and its surrounding areas will soon be better protected against any fire emergencies with the completion of a new fire station.

As one of five new stations implemented by Public Works Department under the 8th National Development Plan, it will be operated under the Department of Fire Services.

Yesterday morning saw the Lambak Kanan fire station being handed over by Marzuke Hj Moksin, the Acting Director of Building Services and Public Works Department, to Pg Hj Daud Pg Hj Mohammad, the Acting Director of Fire Services Department.

Construction of the project started in February 2003 on a 4.025 HA site. It cost more than B$3.5 million and consists of three buildings, namely an administrative block, dormitory and a smoke chamber.

The administration block houses its operation room and engine bays, lecture hall, science laboratory, training rooms, library, canteen as well as offices.

The dormitory for male and female trainees or recruits could accommodate up to 60 persons while the smoke chamber has training facilities. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
