Charity Events For Tsunami Disaster Fund

Bandar Seri Begawan - A number of activities are being organised for the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund which the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports launched recently.

The organising committee represents several organisations that include the Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian, Philippines, Thailand, Indian and Sri Lankan Associations in the country.

The participating associations have come together to provide their contribution by holding several fund raising events where $100,000 have been pledged by the group.

This was disclosed by Simon D Gelan, the elected representative of these associations.

On Jan 23, the organising committee will hold a nationwide walkathon in three districts, where starting points are set for the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in the Brunei-Muara District, Bukit Bendera in the Tutong District, and the Kuala Belait Field for the Belait District.

At least 5,000 especially-designed printed cards will be distributed to participating individuals during the event, which is priced at $10 ahead, revealed Jackson Ting, Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd Managing Director.

He further added that a charitable bowling tournament at Utama Bowling Centre as well as an aerobics fund-raiser would also be held sometime this month.

A snooker challenge is scheduled to be held at Master Alim Enterprise in Kiulap on January 9.

In addition, golfing tournaments will be held at several golf clubs from Jan 21 to 23.

The list includes the JPCC Royal Brunei Golf & Country Club, Panaga Golf Club and the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club, Simon Gelan announced.

Meanwhile, a joint charity bazaar to be held today outside Ayamku Restaurant in Gadong will see the participation of several companies, including Ayamku Restaurant, Syarikat Aliaa, Bintang Ria Sdn Bhd, Kingston Beverages and Creamery Sdn Bhd, Winang Trading, Handsome Enterprise, Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia, Hanum Trading and IDS Borneo, among others.

All proceeds from the sales and activities will be presented to the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports by the end of the month.
