BEDB Keen On Training Locals For Brunei’s Investors

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) has been keeping tab on the training of locals whose skills are needed by prospective investors in the Sultanate.

Pehin Retired Major General Dato Awang Haji Mohammad, the Chairman of the BEDB, disclosed this in his keynote address at the International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Economic Development of Small States yesterday.

He said that BEDB initiates a discussion with local education institutions such as the Department of Technical Education when dealing with prospective investors in Brunei

“This is to assess the type of skills required for the intended jobs so as to provide the necessary training for the locals to take up these jobs,” he said.

Equally important as attracting foreign direct investments and bringing in capital to the country is the quality of sustainable jobs and positive knock-out effects these investment can create, he added.

Pehin Retired Major General Dato Awang Haji Mohammad also said that BEDB has engaged the services of a renowned monitor group to conduct a study to identify the clusters with growth potential.

He said that promotion of clusters development in Brunei is another part of the BEDB's diversification strategy. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
