Helpless residents of Kg Kianggeh
cried out in despair after the heavy downpour on Wednesday evening
caused flash foods in their area. The aftermath caused electrical
problems in most of their vehicles and properties were damaged.
While other homes experienced minor
damages, a permanent resident, who stayed in the area for about five
years had his home destroyed and could only see what's left of his
house the next morning.
Matan
Anak Lulok, 56, told the Bulletin that the rain caused flooding at
about 1am and the strong current eventually managed to sweep his house
away causing it to collide with a reinforced steel pipeline.
"I've managed to save some clothes
while my son got hold of a mobile phone. Other household items went
down with my house," said Matan pointing disbelievingly to his
destroyed house.
Matan
used to live at the house with his wife, two sons who are in high
school and a son in primary school.
"Two of my children who are currently
in Maktab SOAS and my youngest son who goes to Mabohai Primary School
have lost their books in the flash flood," added the Iban man.
Meanwhile, a Chinese Permanent
Resident who has lived in the area for about thirty years now said
that this is the first time he had experienced such a flood.
"Flash floods occasionally occur
during the rainy season over the years but hadn't caused as much
problems as this one did," said the Chinese man.
