Bandar Seri Begawan - A total of 22 goals were scored from four matches in the first week of the 2004-2005 Chairman's Cup with defending champions Bandaran KB bagging the most.

The Belait Municipal Department's Sports and Welfare Body orgnised the event.

The season kicked-off on Dec 27 last year with Pesta opening their Group A match in style, beating newcomers DRM 4-2 at the Bandaran field where all the matches will be played.

Hj Ahmad Azahar gave Pesta the lead scoring on the 34th minute but did not last long as Johnny Ang equalised for DRM two minutes later.

Then on the 63'd minute, Pesta led the game again but it was the same story to the first goal as DRM for the second time again equalised two minutes later through Ak Amirudin.

But before the game ended Pesta scored two more goals through Md Azri (72nd) and Amir Hassan (83rd) to snatch the vital three points.

The following day, 2002 and 2003 winners, Bandaran KB showed no mercy to the start of their campaign, hammering their opponents BMZ 9-1 in a Group B match.

Bandaran KB scored five goals in the first half with four in the second half as their sharpshooter Hj Affandi bagged a hat-trick on the 10th, 44th and 48`h minute.

The remaining Bandaran KB goals were scored by Md Azri Jebri (11th), Md Khairul Azri (16th), Hanafi (39th), Hj Annuar (71st), Salehuddin (75th) and Bahrin (84th). BMZ's only goal was scored by Ali Bungsu on the 32nd minute.

In Group C, two local B-league representatives face each other in their opening group match where 2001 winners. Ikatan Belia Pandan (IBP) were beaten 3-1 by Brunei She ii FT.

Both experienced sides took a while to settle in the game but it were Brunei Shell FT who got into gear first taking a 2-0 lead through Nor'Khairul Zahrin on the 30th minute and Syazwi Mohamed on the 43rd.

IBP reduced the deficit 11 minutes from the restart through Ak Yunus Pg Damit but Ady Zohaini bin Zaini scored the third for Brunei Shell FT to seal the game 3-1.

Group D opening match was held on Jan 3 as Seria team Arena FC and Shavilla FC battle to a 1-1 draw as it was a hard fought match with both sides exchanging shots in the early minutes followed by a few hard tackles.

The deadlock was finally broken on the 70th minute as Shavilla FC Md Hakim blasted home with a left footer after being nicely set up by fellow strike partner Aswandey Hj Ibrahim at the edge of the box.

After the goal, Arena FC stepped up their attack and finally got their equaliser six minutes from time with a wonderful individual skill from Ak Salehuddin bin Pg Hj Idris scoring from the near post to end the game sharing points. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
