Sheraton Utama's Charity Run Nets
$11,000 For UNICEF
By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Sheraton Utama's charity run for UNICEF on December 5
last year proved to be a huge success, raising close to $11,000.
Taking on the UNICEF Challenge for
2004, Sheraton Utama received good support from the Brunei Hash House
Harriers.
The challenge was aimed at helping
the Starwood Hotels & Resorts raise US$100,000 globally by the middle
of December last year.
Furthermore, this fund would
eventually help UNICEF to immunise thousands of children all over the
world against deadly diseases.
Other sponsors, who were involved in
the project, included Brunei Shell Petroleum, Delcol, F&N Coca Cola,
GTE Directories, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Brunei,
Kuang Wei Advertising & Displays and TGT Sdn Bhd.
At least 150 participants turned up
at the event. The trail began from Jalan Tasek, taking the
participants through Bukit Salelah, Berangan and back to the hotel.
The race was divided into different
categories with different trails for adults and children. Even so,
despite the lofty purpose of the charity run, the participants had an
enjoyable time that day.
In addition to the main event,
Sheraton Utama's staff members also contributed towards the fund
through the sale of hand-made potpourri pouches which proved to be a
favourite among hotel guests.
A donation box set up at the hotel
lobby also received encouraging response from the general public.
Sheraton Utama hopes to turn the run
into an annual project so as to attract more companies to support the
worthy cause. --
