Repaired Pipe Ends `Suffering' For Water-Deprived Residents

Bandar Seri Begawan - Residents in the Gadong area are expressing their gratitude to the concerned agency after a five-day water disruption rendered them much `suffering.'

After `suffering' prolonged periods without water, we now realise the importance of piped water to the population, they said.

"The interruption of water supply for five consecutive days has taught us to value water.

"We felt uneasy having to shower and do our laundry at the homes of our relatives and friends," they added.

It was learnt that the residents also had to collect buckets of water from other places to attend to their cooking and personal needs.

The water disruption affecting only residents in the Gadong River vicinity commenced Dec 31 and ended Jan 4. It was caused by a burst major pipe situated near a commercial building construction.

"We hope the relevant department could spare us from similar predicaments in future by restoring our water supply as soon as possible," they said.

The disruption also affected restaurants, shops, car repair establishments as well as offices in Gadong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
