Brunei’s Tsunami Fund Passes Half
Million Dollars As More Pour In

Begawan – Tsunami aid pledges continued pouring in from the
people of Brunei.
As of yesterday, the Brunei Committee
Members of the Aid Fund for the Tsunami Victims has collected more
than B$660,000 from local donors.
The committee has further enhanced
efforts in sending cash as soon as possible in accordance with the
needs of the effected countries.

Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports in an interview with Radio Television Brunei
(RTB) yesterday said the emergency aid is aimed at alleviating the
burden and difficulties faced by the survivors of the disaster.

Haji Jemat, who is also the Co-Chairman of the Aid Fund, added that the
Community Development Department is currently negotiating with certain
parties from the effected countries.
This is to ensure that the priority
needs of the effected countries and contributions from Brunei are
received by victims of the tsunami speedily.
As of yesterday, the Fund has
collected more than B$660,000. The public who wish to contribute can
contact the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports at telephone numbers
23-80667 or 23-80693 and the Community Development Department, at
23-80444 and 23-81555 or to any authorized fund collecting points
throughout the country. --
