Members of the public were initially
surprised to see a crowd gathering at the car park of St John's School
in Kuala Belait on New Year's Day and on the following day recently.
People in the crowd were seen packing
and loading two truckloads of goods which were then transported away.
Upon closer inspection, the
inquisitive onlookers soon realised that many people of all
nationalities were donating clothing, foodstuff, and even cash at the
school compound.
One source from the St John's office
said that they collected B$5,000.00 on January 1 alone, adding that
they had received more donations for the victims of the recent tsunami
disaster. The cash will be forwarded to the governing bodies of the
disaster relief fund.
The packed goods were apparently
taken to several agencies in the capital.
More donations are still being
presented at the office of St. John's School, said a few volunteers.
The office can be reached at 3334207 (Belait District).
