Sri Lankans In Brunei Appeal For Tsunami Donations

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Sri Lankan Association of Brunei Darussalam yesterday appealed for urgent donations to help the millions of victims affected in Sri Lanka following the recent tsunami disaster.

In a press release the Association stated that thousands of lives have been lost, many more thousands have been displaced and the loss to property is of unimaginable proportion.

This is the first ever natural disaster of such magnitude to be experienced by Sri Lankans for which they were not prepared.

As the death toll rises daily, the people of Sri Lanka face the mammoth task of providing relief to the survivors.

This prompted the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Association of Brunei appeal for generous assistance from Sri Lankans and other nationalities in Brunei.

A task force has been set up to coordinate the collection and distribution of all forms of generous support.

Among items needed are sleeping bags (camp beds), mosquito nets, bed sheets, blankets, pillowcases, tents, milk powder, rice, children's clothing, children's feeding bottles, and medicine such as paracetamol tablets/syrup, piriton tablets/syrup, bandage rolls, plaster rolls, antibiotics, cotton rolls, kitchen utensils such as plates, cups, spoons, pots and pans etc.
