Indonesian Theft Suspects
Charged Over $34,000 Loot

Begawan - Two Indonesian nationals, aged 33 and 28, who
allegedly stole more than $34,000 from two persons were brought to the
Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday to face two theft charges.
Both defendants are also facing a
charge of committing mischief. No plea has been taken as the
investigations are still going on.
Both defendants were ordered to be
remanded at a police station for two weeks pending the completion of
investigations.
Predi
and Empur Hati were charged with stealing cash amounting to $12,200
from a vehicle parked in the vicinity of Kedai Maju Jaya Chop Chin
Seng in Jalan Sultan, belonging to a 57 year-old man on December 29
last year at about 9.15 am.
The defendants also face a charge of
stealing a handbag containing $2,500, a passport, five credit cards, a
bank slip, an identity card and an envelope containing $20,113.
They allegedly stole the items from a
vehicle belonging to a 34-year-old woman on December 30 last year at
about 2.05 pm in the vicinity of a bank in Kiarong Complex.
The defendants face imprisonment
which may extend to three years or be fined or both if convicted.
Meanwhile, the two defendants also
face a charge of committing mischief by breaking a car window
belonging to the 57year-old man during the theft.
The offence is punishable under
section 427 of the Penal Code Chapter 22, which carries an
imprisonment term which may extend to five years and whipping of not
less than two strokes.
The case was fixed for January 17 for
further mention. --
