RTB Gets First-Hand Report From
Sumatra On Tsunami Tragedy

Begawan – The Tsunami tragedy that devastated Aceh and Northern
Sumatra have caused great human catastrophe including continuous
suffering among the residents who lost their families, homes and
property.
More than 130,000 people have been
reported missing.
Many buildings were affected by the tsunami>
However,
several mosques in Bandar Aceh were still seen standing tall.
This was disclosed by Doctor Haji
Ismuhadi bin Haji Abdullah a religious official from Indonesia, who is
working in Brunei. He is currently in Medan on a holiday.
Radio
Television Brunei (RTB) News Centre contacted him to get a first-hand
report on the latest situation.
Dr. Haji Ismuhadi said miraculously a
mosque near the tragedy was safe and sound. And another unexplained
circumstance was a cleric’s grave at the Malikussoleh Cemetery in
Northern Aceh remained undisturbed.
According to Brunei history, the
cleric brought Islam to Aceh. Besides Malikussoleh cemetery, two other
cemeteries Malikuzzahir and Kutakara were also safe.
Mosques in the Aceh capital and
Malabuh Aceh were also reported safe.
When asked about what kind of
assistance are needed in the affected area, Dr Haji Ismuhadi said
besides medicines, food and money, what was needed there was the
spirit of cooperation among the volunteers, including the doctors,
paramedics and others.
He also expressed his concern on the
fate and future of the orphaned children and hoped that those
children would be adopted and brought up by people of the same
religion as their parents.
