Indonesian Embassy Holds 'Ghaib'
Prayer For Aceh Victims

Begawan - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Brunei
yesterday held the "Ghaib" mass prayer for the Muslim casualties of
the December 26 tsunami tragedy which struck the Province of Nanggroe
Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and North Sumatra.
Indonesian nationals in the Sultanate
performed the prayers in the light of the national disaster,
devastating earthquake and tsunami which occurred on December 26,
2004.
The service aimed to show solidarity
and unity toward fellow countrymen especially to casualties.
The mass prayer was attended by
Yusbar Djamil, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, and more
than 150 Indonesian expatriates and their families in Brunei.
The "Ghaib" mass prayer was performed
after "lsya" prayers and was led by Ustad Hj Abdul Qadir Umar Alhamidy,
MA, senior lecturer at the Islamic Studies Institute of Sultan Omar
Ali Saifuddien, University of Brunei Darussalam.
The mass prayer was followed by the
recital of "Surah Yasin" led by Ustad Hj Akhtiar Ismail.
As of December 31, the death toll in
Indonesia alone had reached around 100,000 lives.
Yusbar
Djamil, the Indonesian Ambassador, lauded the exemplary action led by
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei who sent
condolences and expressed deep sadness on the fatality of many lives
following the earthquakes and tsunami waves hitting Indonesia.
The Ambassador also appreciated the
friends of Brunei and Indonesians, who had expressed their sympathy
and provided assistance in kind and liquid for the victims.
The function was concluded with a
slide projector presentation on `"The earthquake and Tsunami in
Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam" delivered by Hj Agus S Djamil, an Indonesian
geologist from Unit Petroleum of the Prime Minister's Office, Brunei
Darusssalam.
In his presentation, the speaker
explained the process of earthquakes and tidal tsunami with its
epicentre in Indian Ocean 160 km west of the Province of Nanggroe Aceh
Darussalam on December 26, 2004.
The speaker also gave some early
warnings related to the disaster in anticipation that another
earthquake could come afterward.
In response to the public, who has
expressed their sympathy and who intends to donate to alleviate the
misery faced by thousands of the victims in Aceh, the Indonesian
Embassy has opened the "Tsunami Disaster Relief Assistance Section"
